Peddler, customer held with MD in separate cases in Hinjewadi

Pune: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night and 165gm of synthetic drug Mephedrone worth Rs16.6 lakh seized from him. The Hinjewadi police arrested the suspect from Maan village near Hinjewadi on a tip-off.

In another action in Hinjewadi, the crime branch arrested a scrap dealer and seized 8.1gm of Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs81,000 from him. The man had purchased the drugs from a peddler in the Warje area, police said.



Assistant inspector Somnath Panchal of the Hinjewadi police told TOI that police constable Karbhari Palve received a tip-off that a person would be reaching Maan village with some drugs on Wednesday night. "We laid a trap. Suspect Akshay Shinde of Ambegaon Pathar reached the spot on a scooter and we took him into custody," he said.

Panchal said the police found 165gm of MD in Shinde's possession. "We are questioning him to find where he sourced the MD from." Meanwhile, the officer said that in the early hours of Wednesday, a team of the anti-narcotics cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch arrested a 44-year-old resident of Pimpri and recovered 8.
