PEARLAND, Texas — An organization in Pearland is urgently asking for your help to feed the less fortunate. With more people relying on their pantry, they’re struggling to meet the growing demand. The organization is calling on the community to step up and make a difference.

The non-profit organization helps keep food on the table. But lately Christian Helping Hands in Pearland has been having trouble keeping food on their shelves. "The other day this was full and now its empty," said Hita Dixon a volunteer for Christian Helping Hands.

They normally would help about 40 families a day. But lately they’re up to 70. The need to help families is growing.

"It’s been one thing after another after another," said Christie Lyons. Christie and her husband lost her 5-year-old son with autism this year in a tragic drowning accident. "I don’t think we will ever be the same" said Lyons.

And just a few months later they had a baby girl. "It was hard to find joy in a new baby when were mourning the loss of the new baby," said Lyons. Christie and her husband could no longer live in their home in San Antonio.

The memories were just too hard. And moved here to Houston for a fresh start, but it hasn’t been easy. "We were left homeless," said Lyons.

Now they’ve got a place they both are working. They have no furniture, but their priority is keeping food on the table for their kids. "We might not have a couch or a Christmas tree, but we will do the best we can to have a holiday," said Lyons.

And organizations like Christian Helping Hands helps fill in the gaps for them. "Food is food and helping hand is helping hand because we need it," said Lyons. Volunteers hope that every bit of food they get, can help lift these families up.

"Hopefully they can get out the situation," said Dixon. If you would like to help them keep food on their shelves you can donate Monday through Friday before noon. 4305 Magnolia Pkwy Pearland, TX 77584 (281) 485-9776.
