KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Yasin Sulaiman's brother, Zain Sulaiman, expressed his gratitude following the Court of Appeal's decision today to acquit and release Yasin. The court also ordered that he be detained at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak, at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor. When contacted, Zain said that he and his family were prepared to accept whatever outcome emerged from the hearing held this morning.

"We are extremely grateful for this very positive outcome. From the outset, our family agreed that we would accept the court's decision with an open heart."Having gone through all of this, we've simply tried our best and continued to pray.

Regardless of the decision, Yasin has always said he would accept it with an open heart."This morning, after hearing submissions from both sides, Alhamdulillah, the panel of judges ruled in favour of the appeal and overturned the decision of the Shah Alam High Court," he told Harian Metro. When asked about Yasin's condition, Zain said that his brother, who is also a composer, was in good health.

"Alhamdulillah, Yasin appears to be well. He has been taking his medication regularly and looks healthier physically, having gained a little weight."He said that the first thing he wants to do after his release is to lose weight.

"His daughter, Malaika, was also present this morning. She seemed very nervous, but when the decision was announced in our favour, she couldn't hold back her tears of joy."Yasin has now been taken back to Kajang Prison to undergo the formal release process, and he will likely be transferred to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta as soon as possible," Zain added.

Today's ruling by the Court of Appeal overturned the Shah Alam High Court's earlier judgment, which had sentenced Yasin to life imprisonment and 16 strokes of the cane after he was found guilty on three drug-related charges. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
