PCMC to conduct audit of all statues

Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has directed its staffers to conduct a structural audit of all the statues in the twin city and submit a report before Sept 18. The city engineer of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s building permission and unauthorised construction control department, Makarand Nikam, has issued the directives on Sept 3 after the recent incident reported at Rajkot Fort in Malvan, Sindhudurga, where a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj collapsed. “We carried out frequent inspections of these structures, and whenever needed, we conducted necessary repairs of supporting structures,” Nikam told TOI.

He added that the executive engineers have been directed to repair statues if needed during the audit. The police are now proceeding with their investigation with Apte's assistance.
