Priyansh Arya's jaw-droppping maiden IPL century and Shashank Singh's brilliant finishing act powered Punjab Kings to an 18-run win over the Chennai Super Kings at home.(HT_PRINT) PBKS lost wickets in clumps in the first 10 overs. They lost three wickets in the powerplay and went on to lose half their side in the first eight overs.
(PTI) However, Priyansh Arya's hitting was so pure at the other end that the loss of wickets almost didn't matter. He raced to a half-century in 19 balls. (ANI) Arya found a steady partner in Shashank Singh and the pair smashed 71 runs in 34 balls for the sixth wicket.
He raced past 50 in 19 balls. (ANI) Arya never really turned back and ended up crossing his century just 19 balls later. He eventually fell on 103 off 42 balls.
(PTI) PBKS never lost a wicket after that, though, with Shashank delivering once again at the death by smashing an unbeaten 52 in 36 balls. Marco Jansen at the other end finished on 34 off 19 and the stand between them ended unbeaten on 65 off 38 balls. PBKS finished with a score of 219/6.
(REUTERS) CSK's opening stand finally fired, although that was not quick enough considering the steep target they were chasing. The stand was broken in the seventh over with Rachin Ravindra falling to Glenn Maxwell for 36 runs in 23 balls. His opening stand with Devon COnway brought 61 runs.
(PTI) Conway then put up a partnership of 89 off 51 balls with Shivam Dube. (PTI) MS Dhoni walked out earlier than usual with just under five overs remaining in the match when Dube fell on 42 off 27. Conway, meanwhile, was eventually retired out on 59 off 49 balls.
(ANI) Dhoni smashed 27 in 12 balls, turning back the clock with some of the shots. However, he fell first ball of the last over and that pretty much ended CSK's slim chances. (PTI).
