By REYNALD MAGALLON The PBA is postponing the All-Star festivities that are supposed to happen in Davao next month. Commissioner Willie Marcial made the announcement on Wednesday, April 16, citing security and scheduling concerns. “Ang All-Star natin as of now, postponed sa Davao dahil sa security concern at ‘yung sinasabi ng organizer na oras.
Tiningnan natin ‘yung makakabuti sa karamihan kaya natin pinostpone,” said Marcial. The league chief did not anymore go into specifics to the reason for the postponement but the All-Star is scheduled from May 1 to 4, a week before the midterm elections. Marcial added that the league is looking into other possible hosts, particularly in the Visayas, but if not resolved within two weeks, the All-Star for this year could be cancelled altogether.
“Tignan natin kung maaayos, pero kung hindi (naayos) within two weeks or after Holy Week, baka ma-cancel ‘yung All-Star natin,” said Marcial. The postponement should be a huge bummer especially with the events lined up for the Davao All-Star, including a supposed game between PBA stars and league players that hailed from Mindanao. The PBA held its All-Star in Bacolod City last year.
