: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, who holds the portfolio of Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply, underlined that the NDA alliance government in Andhra Pradesh is focused on providing potable drinking water to all households in the state. He accused YSRC government of failing to change water filter beds in rural areas during the five years of its rule.
This has led to contaminated water not getting filtered, leading to public health issues. As part of a review meeting with Panchayat Raj and Rural Development commissioner Krishna Teja and officials of Rural Water Supply, Pawan Kalyan inspected water samples collected from drinking water pipelines that supply water to Valivarthipadu village in Gudivada assembly constituency. The NDA government had changed the water filter beds in villages across the Gudivada constituency at a cost of ₹3.
3 crore after local legislator Venigandla Ramu raised the issue of contaminated water being supplied to villages in the area. The Deputy CM instructed officials to strictly adhere to the standard guidelines for supplying drinking water by changing filter beds at regular intervals. He emphasised that the alliance government is taking constructive steps to ensure supply of potable water to all households in the state.
Drinking water purification works being carried out in Gudivada constituency should serve as a model for the entire state, he added..
