Paul Mescal has shared a cheeky five-word verdict on the film that was dubbed the 'scariest movie of the year'. The actor shared his thoughts while taking part in Variety's latest Actors on Actors series. Each year, the publication pairs up some of the biggest names in Hollywood to discuss their latest projects, their craft and industry as a whole.
The latest episode saw Mescal meet up with Ariana Grande. The pair speak at length in a 55-minute long video about their latest films, Gladiator II and Wicked, which were released in cinemas on the same day. They also joke about how they are 'Glicked' as moviegoers were encouraged to take part in an unusual double bill to repeat the phenomenon that was 'Barbenheimer' upon the release of Barbie and Oppenheimer last year.
Grande and Mescal talk in detail about their careers so far and experiences making the respective movies. This includes the Irish star sharing his own musical theatre background and admitting that his previous role in Normal People contributed to getting cast in the epic sequel, as director Ridley Scott was watching the series in bed while beginning production on the film. However, he also revealed that he's not a big fan of horror movies, unlike Grande who shares she watches the genre a lot.
He said he can't watch horror 'for love nor money'. However he reveals that he saw Longlegs recently. While Grande immediately responds: "Brilliant" and says that the film was one of her favourites of the last year along with Late Night With the Devil, Mescal has a different response.
His five-word verdict on Longlegs was: "F*** me. I cannot do it." Grande then tells Mescal that he has to see Late Night With the Devil because of the performances, to which he replies with a laugh: "Nope.
I'm going to say yes but it's never gonna happen." Fans watching the video loved the moment with many taking to the comments section to react. One posted: "The fact that Ariana loves horror movies makes me love her even more plus Paul bringing up Longlegs and her saying she loves it especially when the lead actress is now dating her ex husband.
...
Ariana is a class act and seems like such a sweetheart!" Another added: "Thinking of Ari watching Longlegs is just so comical." Longlegs was released earlier this year to substantial critical and commercial acclaim. It has a favourable 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned more than $100 million at the box office from a budget of less than $10 million.
It follows an FBI agent in the 1990s who is tasked with tracking down an occultist serial killer responsible for murdering multiple families throughout Oregon. One fan who shared a review online said it was 'one of the scariest films of the year'. They added: "I genuinely taught the film was scary throughout almost all its run.
I was expecting this to be a grounded thriller but I should have read the signs early in the film...
it is really a terrifying unconventional horror movie." Gladiator II and Wicked are in cinemas now, Longlegs is available to rent on digital storefronts.
