The Beatles were one of the biggest bands in the world and their legacy would go on to inspire a number of other groups, including The Ramones.

Paul McCartney wrote some of the most memorable songs in history , but he also had a surprising role in naming a popular punk rock band. During The Beatles' heyday, Paul and his fellow band members couldn't step foot outside without being mobbed by fans. To dodge this constant attention, Paul and John Lennon resorted to using pseudonyms when making hotel reservations.

Interestingly, Paul's chosen alias ended up inspiring another band - The Ramones. "Paul [McCartney] would check into a hotel using the name Paul Ramon," Johnny Ramone once shared. We decided to call the band the Ramones." Dee Dee successfully persuaded the rest of the group to adopt the Ramone surname, and thus, a legendary band was born. Marky Ramone has also recounted this tale.

"The Beatles used to tour...

before they were The Beatles, they were called The Silver Beatles, and all the girls running after them, even the guys," he reminisced. "So the next thing you know, Paul McCartney would sign into a hotel room as Paul Ramone. Dee Dee looked at this and said, 'Let's call ourselves The Ramones.

'" Marky also felt compelled to debunk a circulating rumor about how The Ramones got their name. "There's another story, too: they opened up the phone book and threw a dart at it – that didn't happen," he clarified. But he should have gotten rid of the name Paul because immediately you go, 'I wonder if he's still doing that.' "So it should've been like Carl Ramone, or Bobby Ramone, you know what I mean, something like that. But it all worked out.

" The Beatles' influence on The Ramones extended beyond just their moniker. The American punk rockers drew significant inspiration from the Liverpool legends, with their debut album bearing a striking resemblance to The Beatles' sound. Rising to stardom in the 1970s, The Ramones maintained their presence in the music scene up until 1996.

Throughout their illustrious career, they performed at more than 2,000 live shows..
