The biggest domino in free agency has fallen, as star forward Paul George has agreed to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers on a max deal. The deal is for four years and is worth $212 million. There had been growing speculation about George landing in Philadelphia as he and the Los Angeles Clippers couldn't come to terms on a new contract.
insider Shams Charania of The Athletic was one of the first to break the news. Paul George plans to sign a four-year, $212 million maximum contract to join the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell . Philadelphia lands George to pair him alongside stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
The 76ers now become one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference and will be a tough team to beat. They had been missing a true wing player to compliment its two stars, so George will be a sight for sore eyes. While he isn't the same player that he once was, the 34-year-old is still very productive on the court.
Last season with the Los Angeles Clippers, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.
5 assists per game. He also shot 41.3 percent from beyond the three-point line, the best percentage of his career.
George will now have a better chance to go for his first title with the 76ers as the Eastern Conference is seen as a much weaker conference than the West. Leaving the Clippers likely wasn't easy for George but he felt that he deserved a bigger contract. George had spent the past five seasons with the Clippers, who could never get over the hump.
