Musicologist and entrepreneur Paul Atkin has been named the winner of the 17th Traetta Prize 2025.Gianfranco Spada, President of the Società Traetta said, “It is with great honour that, on behalf of the Traetta Society, I am pleased to announce that the 17th Traetta Prize 2025 has been awarded to the visionary Paul Atkin for his project to revive the Teatro San Cassiano, the world’s first opera house.”Atkins noted, “This award means everything to me personally, but it is of course an award for our whole team and their dedicated efforts in making the restoration of the Teatro San Cassiano to Venice the reality it is today.
A huge heartfelt thank you to President Gianfranco Spada and to the Traetta Society.”The English musicologist and entrepreneur is the founder and driving force behind the project to reconstruct the Teatro San Cassiano in Venice, the first public opera house in history, inaugurated in 1637 and later demolished.The Traetta Prize was established in 2009, and previous winners have included Philippe Jaroussky , Benjamin David, Núria Rial, Diego Fasolis, Olga Peretyatko, María Bayo, Christophe Rousset, and René Jacobs.
