PAU teachers protest, seek revised allowances, arrears

Ludhiana: With the protest by teachers of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) entering 19th day on Monday, the faculty organised a rally at varsity gate.They alleged that the state government and university administration had failed to address their pending issues.Although PAU has been ranked as the No.

1 agricultural university in India for the second consecutive year, there is in-discriminatory attitude of the state government towards the teachers of PAU, they said. Dr Mandeep Singh Gill, president of Punjab Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (PAUTA), said the university teachers on Monday gathered in front of varsity’s gate No. 1 and asked the state government to get out of slumber and provide justice to the university faculty.



He further said, “We have requested and appealed to the state government as well as the university administration to provide revised allowances, gratuity and arrears as per the revised basic pay at par with public sector colleges and universities of Punjab.” Dr KS Sangha said that the teachers need to be aware of their rights and the state government and university administration should be more considerate towards the genuine demands of PAU teachers. Dr Gurmeet Singh Dheri, PAUTA secretary, pointed out that the state government had already notified revised allowances and gratuity for teachers of other universities, but PAU teachers were being denied the same.

The PAU Pensioners Teachers Association is also supporting the ongoing protest as the state had still not revised the pension of teachers of PAU and GADVASU, who retired before January 1, 2016.
