The New England Patriots decided to make a permanent change at quarterback ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the Houston Texans, benching Jacoby Brissett and starting rookie first-round pick Drake Maye. Since Maye took over, the offense has looked better, and the Patriots have earned two of their three wins (even though Brissett played most of the victory over the New York Jets due to Maye's placement in the concussion protocol). Before last week's win over the Chicago Bears, Maye spoke to the offense and displayed his impressive leadership qualities for a 22-year-old.

On Wednesday, Maye was asked about the support he's receiving from Brissett and whether or not it was difficult to speak to the room with the captain being his backup. "I think Jacoby’s still a big-time leader on this football team," Maye told reporters. "Especially, he’s in my ear, and I don’t know if you all see him on the sidelines, but it’s basically like he’s playing the game over there.

He’s yelling, yelling at me, yelling at the refs on the sidelines. So, he’s very animated, and that’s his personality. I think everybody respects him on this football team and has a lot of respect.

See what he did in the Jets game, I think that even just raised the bar of him coming in after me being the starter, him coming in and getting a big-time win at home. I think those guys just respect him. He's meant a lot to me as just a mentor, and just trying to learn everything I can.

He's probably tired of me asking questions, but I think he enjoys it, and we enjoy being in the same room together." Brissett was never going to be the team's starting quarterback for the entire 2024 season, and now he's doing everything he can to support the rookie. That's the sign of a good leader and great teammate.
