After starting the year with a win and a loss in their first two games, the New England Patriots met the New York Jets on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium and suffered an embarrassing 24-3 loss to fall to 1-2 under head coach Jerod Mayo. New England's offense continued to look anemic, mostly due to their offensive line, which was disappointing as expected. They were without Cole Strange, Sidy Sow and Vederian Lowe due to injury and Michael Jordan left early with an injury suffered in the game.

Starting quarterback Jacboy Brissett completed 12 of his 18 passes for 98 yards while taking five sacks. Their rushing attack didn't look great either, as the trio of Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson and JaMycal Hasty combined for just 57 yards on the ground. Gibson also caught three passes for eight yards.

They were so out of it that the Patriots allowed Drake Maye to make his NFL debut with roughly five minutes to go. He completed four of his eight passes for 22 yards. He took two sacks and rushed for 12 yards.

Entering Thursday, New England's defense was considered to be among the league's best, but they looked rough in this one. DeMarcus Covington's united allowed Aaron Rodgers to complete 27 of his 35 attempts for 281 yards and two scores. They also allowed the trio of Braelon Allen, Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis to total 115 yards and a touchdown.

The lone bright spots for New England's defense were Joshua Uche and Deatrich Wise Jr. sacks, as a drinking game for the Patriots' missed tackles likely would've resulted in a trip to the hospital. Mayo's team has a lot of work to do during this time before their next game, and they can't waste any time.
