The Kansas City Chiefs are in a closer game than expected on Black Friday against the Las Vegas Raiders, as they look to avoid their second loss of the 2024 season. The two-time defending Super Bowl champions are getting all they can handle from the Raiders, and it appears that quarterback Patrick Mahomes may be in some discomfort in the second half. Late in the third quarter, Mahomes was on the ground when one of his linemen inadvertently stepped on his left hand , causing the quarterback to grimace and attempt to flex out the injury.

Sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung reported that Mahomes did not receive medical attention after having his hand stepped on, but that he continued to work out the hand while looking at film on a tablet. . @KayleeHartung provides the latest on Patrick Mahomes' hand.

Friday's game has been a low-scoring affair despite the Chiefs entering as heavy favorites, but the game seems to be following a similar script to last year's Chiefs-Raiders game on Christmas Day. That day marked the second time Mahomes lost to the Chiefs in his career, and one of his few career losses to the rest of the AFC West. The Chiefs haven't lost at home since that game, but they're in danger of a repeat performance following their slow start against Las Vegas.

Jamie Squire/Getty Images The Chiefs are leading the AFC this season with a 10-1 record, but Mahomes hasn't played to his usual MVP-level form. He's thrown 18 touchdowns this season, and his 11 interceptions are second-most in the NFL, behind Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks. The Chiefs will have another divisional game next week against the Los Angeles Chargers, who are fighting to stay alive in a crowded AFC Wild Card race with their 7-4 record.

If Mahomes and the Chiefs are able to win the division this year, it'll mark the ninth consecutive season they've been able to do so. The New England Patriots hold the record with 11 straight victories in the AFC East from 2009 through 2019, a mark that the Chiefs continue to chase with each passing year. We'll see if Mahomes' brief injury has more of an effect on him as Friday's game reaches its apex, and if he is affected in future weeks or games moving forward.
