EXCLUSIVE : The story of the demolition of the Cabrini-Green public housing development in Chicago is the basis for a new podcast starring Patina Miller , Corey Stoll and Harry Lennix . The Raising Kanan star Miller, Billions actor Stoll and The Blacklist’s Lennix are leading The Last Days of Cabrini-Green , a new series for Audible that comes from Campside Media, the company behind the Chameleon and Suspect podcasts, and Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy producer At Will Media. The series, which launches on November 14, is based on Ben Austen’s book High-Risers: Cabrini-Green and the Fate of American Public Housing .

It takes place in Chicago, 1992 – the deadliest year in the city’s history and also a moment of rapid change: Michael Jordan, Oprah, population growth. It’s the beginning of controversial Mayor Richard M. Daley’s 22-year term, when the murder of 7-year-old Dantrell “Danny” Davis ignites a political and societal powder keg, ultimately leading to the demolition of the neighborhood that Danny once called home: the Cabrini-Green public housing development.

The series mixes extensively-researched nonfiction from Austen with scripted dramatizations penned by Harrison Rivers. He’s the real deal – rigorous and disciplined, but wonderfully empathetic, too. And all those skills are on display in this series,” said Matthew Shaer, Co-Founder, Campside “This story is forever ingrained in the history and DNA of Chicago, and as a Chicagoan, having the opportunity to bring it to life alongside such incredible storytellers in Ben Austen and Harrison Rivers – not to mention the talented team at Campside – holds a very significant place in my heart, added Will Malnati, Founder & CEO, At Will Media. Austen said, “The unique blend of actors and interviews and reporting come together to tell an unforgettable story of a mother and a son, which is also the epic story of Cabrini-Green, of all of Chicago, and of every American city.
