Patients wait as protesting docs close OPD services for 3 hours

Times News Network Ludhiana: The three-hour strike by doctors in government hospitals, including district and sub-divisional hospitals as well as community health centres, affected OPD services and left patients inconvenienced. Emergency and intensive care units (ICUs) were exempted from the strike call. OPD services in government hospitals remained suspended for three hours, from 8am to 11am, on the strike call issued by the PCMS Association .

Demands of protesters include re-instatement of the assured career progression scheme and adequate security measures for healthcare workers. Dr Akhil Sarin of the PCMS Association said that if the government failed to fulfil their demands, health services would be completely suspended from September 12. He added that they initially planned to suspend OPD services fully from Monday but decided to do so for just three hours on the request of the government.



Limited duration protest will be observed till doctors’ meeting with the cabinet sub- committee led by finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on September 11.
