JOHOR BARU: Fifty-three foreigners, including women in brassieres and miniskirts, were detained during an immigration raid at a Mount Austin entertainment outlet on April 22.The Johor Immigration Department's surprise operation, Ops Gegar, revealed a network of undocumented workers, with foreign women hired to entertain club patrons. A 35-year-old Malaysian, believed to be the club's caretaker, was also detained.
The 43 foreign women, mostly scantily dressed, attempted to flee when officers entered the club at 11pm. Their attempts were unsuccessful, and they were quickly apprehended. State Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said 109 patrons and workers were screened.
Among those detained were 43 foreign women and 10 men, suspected of violating the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963. The detainees were from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, aged 20 to 40. A 35-year-old Malaysian was arrested under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act for harbouring undocumented migrants.
Six others were issued notices to assist with investigations."The operation revealed widespread abuse of stay permits, with many believed to be working illegally and possibly involved in immoral activities," Darus said in a statement. "We will not compromise with employers or premises hiring undocumented foreigners without valid permits," he added.
All detainees have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further action. View this post on Instagram A post shared by JABATAN IMIGRESEN NEGERI JOHOR (@imigresenjohor)© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
