Parents were urged yesterday to support their children in kindergarten as it formed a critical first stage of education. Speaking during the Holy Trinity Kindergarten Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week celebrations in Suva, parent Sereima Tagicakirewa stressed the importance of parental involvement in early education. “I just want to encourage the parents, they should support their kids, especially in the kindergarten,” Ms Tagicakirewa said.
“Because it’s very important they have to see that we are supporting them in terms of academics, as this is the beginning.” The 26-year-old mother, who is a student at the Fiji National University (FNU), said she made it a priority to attend the week-long celebration. “I have to come daily to support my child,” she said.

She also highlighted the significance of early childhood education, describing it as the foundation level. “Foundation level is very important – before they go out to primary level, we, the ECE educators, we develop them first,” Ms Komaiwai said. She also emphasised that children should be treasured like pearls in every family.
“These children are very important because they’ll become future leaders of tomorrow,” she added. The ECE Week celebrations ends today. Feedback: kaneta.
