The Pinewood Prep offense has scored on all of its possessions during its last three games. The Panthers’ kept their streak of consecutive scoring possessions alive Oct. 25 when they defeated First Baptist School 45-14 during Pinewood’s final home game of the regular season.
The Panthers improved to 6-2 on the year with a 2-0 mark in their region. “We’ve been off for a couple of weeks, but in our past three games our offense has scored every time we touched the ball,” Pinewood coach DeVonte Holloman said. “Tonight was our first time kicking a field goal (during that stretch), but we still scored.
Our guys are really comfortable in our scheme. We are getting good at what we do and not turning the ball over.” The opening kickoff went to First Baptist, but the Pinewood defense forced a punt.
The Panthers took over at their own 26-yard line and moved the ball to midfield on a pair of runs by Jeremiah Singleton. Then quarterback Asa Windham connected with receiver Jayden Bellush for a 47-yard pass to the Hurricanes’ 1. McKinley Bilton ran the ball into the end zone from there to open the scoring and Alex Hylton made his first of six successful PAT kicks of the evening.
Windham connected with three different receivers for as many touchdown passes to give the Panthers a 28-0 halftime lead. The QB hit Bellush for a 27-yard TD, Jayden Alexander for a 45-yard TD and Terrance Stallworth for a 65-yard TD. Windham finished the half with approximately 200 passing yards.
Hylton opened the second-half scoring with a 32-yard field goal. Later in the half, Windham connected with Heyward Moore for a 46-yard TD pass and Singleton found the end zone on a 6-yard run. “Our quarterback has been playing well,” Holloman said.
“Our O line has blocked well and we have a lot of play makers at receiver. I was proud of the way our second group on defense played and the physicality they showed. They put up a fight tonight.
” After Pinewood put its second-string defense in, First Baptist scored two TDs. QB Thomas Adamsky connected with Walker Traxler for a 25-yard TD pass and a 38-6 score. In the fourth quarter, First Baptist’s Jerrod Duncan scored on a 10-yard run that was followed by a two-point conversion run by Trent Midlen for a 38-14 score.
Windham finished with more than 275 passing yards. Bellush led the Pinewood receivers with three catches for 84 yards. Stallworth and Alexander both finished with more than 60 receiving yards.
Pinewood looks to complete a clean sweep of its region Nov. 1 when it closes its schedule with a game at John Paul II. The Golden Warriors are 1-8 on the season with a 0-2 mark in region play.
Regardless of the outcome of that game, Pinewood will receive the region’s top playoff seed thanks to its head-to-head win over Hilton Head Christian (5-3, 2-1) earlier this season..
