There was a lot to celebrate at Pinewood Prep last week. Pinewood started the week by honoring eight athletes from four sports who have signed to play collegiately. By the end of the week, the Panthers Baseball team had wrapped up a region championship.

During a signing day celebration in the school’s main gym April 7, four Pinewood Football players announced which college program they will join next school year. This Fall, each of them helped Pinewood claim its first football state championship in school history. Quarterback Asa Windham signed with Methodist University.

He averaged more than 1,000 passing yards per season during his four seasons with the Panthers’ varsity squad. As a senior, he passed for more than 1,800 yards and 25 TDs with only four interceptions and rushed for more than 400 yards. “I’ve always had a great group of guys around me and I think our work ethic really brought us where we are,” Windham said.

“I’ve been at Pinewood since first grade and all the teachers contribute to the community here and I’ve been around a great group of coaches from middle school to varsity.” He said Methodist should be a good fit for him. “I really like their offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and weightlifting coach, (Andrew) Reger, who recruited me,” he said.

“At the next level it’s a job, but at the end of the day I can still love it. I worked hard to get there and I’ll continue to work hard and look forward to it.” Running back J.

J. Singleton signed with Butler Community College in Kansas. In high school he rushed for more than 4,000 yards.

As a senior at Pinewood, he rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. “I was looking for somewhere I felt safe, secure and where I’ll get trained to be a better athlete and a better man,” Singleton said. “On my visit to Kansas their coaches made me feel at home.

I plan to go in and become a big part of the team. As long as I stay focused, learn the playbook and stay on top of my work in the classroom I’ll be on the field.” Receiver/defensive back Jaden Bellush signed with The Citadel.

He transferred from Summerville to Pinewood as a junior in part to see if he could get more playing time. He received it and became a key player for the Panthers. “Pinewood felt like home as soon as I stepped foot on campus,” Bellush said.

“For me it was a good decision. I’ve never been the biggest attention seeker. I’m more of a blocker with good route running skills.

Giving J.J. the running room he needed to do his thing was one of the best aspects of my game and I think we are both glad we came to Pinewood.

” Terrance Stallworth, the Panthers leading receiver last season, signed with North Greenville University. During his senior season he had nearly 40 receptions for more than 700 yards and 13 TDs. Two Pinewood soccer athletes signed.

Dylen Gauthier signed with the Queens University men’s program while Kailen Dasinger signed with the Methodist University women’s program. “When I went on my visit the coach was super nice and the team was super friendly,” Dasinger said. “They are really competitive in their division and the campus is really pretty and enjoyable.

” Anneleise Phinney, who has spent the past five years establishing herself as a prominent competitor in shotgun sports, signed to compete with the Clemson University shooting sports program. Catcher/Pitcher Drew Hartig signed to play baseball for USC Lancaster. On April 10, he helped the Panthers claim a 7-2 victory over First Baptist to complete a clean sweep of their region.
