Topline: The background: Palisades residents have been under a “Do Not Drink” notice since Jan. 10, meaning residents could only use bottled water for drinking and cooking. The order affected most of the Pacific Palisades' 90272 ZIP code and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers just north of San Vicente Boulevard.
Why the order? The Palisades Fire damaged water distribution infrastructure in the area, and the system lost pressure as firefighters worked to combat the flames. Since then, the LADWP has been flushing the system and testing for contaminants such as benzene and other toxic chemicals that may have gotten into the water supply.
