There are calls to cut down all cricketing ties with Pakistan following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians lost their lives. India and Pakistan don't play bilateral series and only face each other in ICC events and the Asia Cup. Given the border tensions, playing Pakistan even in the ICC event looks like a distant dream.
But, there are a few India vs Pakistan matches lined up this year. The Men's team is set to face the arch rivals in the Asia Cup in September, while the women's team will have to play Pakistan in the Women's ODI World Cup. More so, both tournaments will be hosted by India.
That's a pretty complicated situation. While it's confirmed that Pakistan won't be playing their matches in India after BCCI and PCB agreed to play all ICC and ACC tournaments hosted by India or Pakistan in the hybrid model, scheduling will present the apex bodies stiff task. Without an India vs Pakistan contest, the tournament might not be a huge hit financially, which will not only pact the BCCI or PCB, but also the order boards.
Amidst the ongoing controversy, Pakistan opener Gull Feroza said that Pakistan is not interested in playing the Women's ODI World Cup in India. “We know this much that we will play in Asian conditions, and we are not playing in India. This is clear.
Neither are we interested in playing in India,” she told PakPassion. “So, wherever it is played - hopefully in Sri Lanka or Dubai - those conditions are similar to the ones you get in Asia. The Qualifiers were at home, and the staff prepared tracks accordingly.
Wherever the World Cup games are played, the conditions will be similar to those we have at home. So, our preparation will be according to that, and we are ready for that,” she added. Pakistan women qualified for the mega event after winning the World Cup qualifiers at home.
