A chilly but dry morning saw the duo's play a two player Scramble event and a close finish which required a computer countback was the outcome. Three pairs all scored nett 64's and the best back nine of those belonged to Zak Jones and Tony Higgins. Having to settle for second after the countback was Steve Bateman and Mats Mattsson with Phil Barry and Roy Fletcher ending up third.
Andy Jones was the winner of Saturday's Winter League round and the points he gained moved him to the head of the qualifying points table. He scored 39 stableford points on a cold but dry day and this was one better than two players who posted 38 apiece. Paul Jones was placed second on a countback with the best of these cards leaving Nick Rich to settle for third.
Two of the in-form players at Brean continued their good runs as they filled the top two spots in the Seniors January Stableford on Thursday. Steve Barker made it two wins in a week as he took the top spot by a single point. His score of 35 was one better than Mark Elvins and Barker also prevented Elvins from recording back to back Monthly Stableford wins following his win in December.
Third place went to Chris Fairchild on 33 after he edged out Roger Hurrell on countback..
