Two people at Bolton’s biggest housing group have been handed hefty fines after fly-tipping at a car park. Bolton at Home says that the two residents had dumped the rubbish at a car park near Fearnhead Close in Farnworth. This comes amid long running complaints and concerns about fly tipping across the borough over recent months and years.
A Bolton at Home statement said: “Two residents have recently been fined £600 each, for dumping household waste in a car park near Fearnhead Close. “This action was taken with the help of Bolton Council , who are committed to keeping our neighbourhoods clean and safe. A huge amount of rubbish was dumped in a car park (Image: Bolton at Home) “Please remember, fly-tipping is illegal and action will be taken against those who do it.
“Let's all do our bit to get rid of waste properly and keep our communities clean.” An image from the scene shows a large amount of household rubbish collected in a range of shopping bags and black bin bags left dumped in the corner of the car park. Earlier this year in March figures from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs showed that Bolton had seen more than 7,000 fly tipping incidents reported over 2023.
Of these, nearly 4,000 were left on highways and in back alleys, with Bolton Council having investigation 1,468 of a total of 7,114 incidents reported to them. Bolton at Home, which runs around 19,000 homes, says that it is responsible for the removal of fly tipping on estates and land that it owns. A statement on the housing group’s website said: “We believe that our customers deserve estates and green spaces free from fly tipping and large deposits of rubbish.
” It added: “ Fly-tipping is the illegal disposal of waste on land that does not have a waste management licence in force.
