Nine areas in the country could experience a “danger level” heat index on Friday, PAGASA said in its daily forecast . PAGASA categorizes areas with a 42°C to 51°C heat index under the danger category, which poses health risks such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. According to its 5 p.
m. April 3 bulletin, the state weather bureau predicted that Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur could experience a 45°C heat index. Meanwhile, Dagupan City, Pangasinan could reach up to 44°C.
PAGASA also said the following areas could reach a temperature of 42°C: In Metro Manila, a heat index as high as 38°C is expected in NAIA Pasay City while Science Garden Quezon City could reach 40°C. Areas with 33°C to 41°C fall under the “extreme caution” category. PAGASA said heat cramps and heat exhaustion are probably risks under this heat index level.
