Photo by Megan Briggs/Getty Images Paddy Pimblett and Colby Covington have a budding beef, one that won’t be resolved anytime soon if Pimblett has his way.During a backstage interview at Kaseya Center in Miami following a UFC 314 co-main event win over Michael Chandler, Pimblett was verbally accosted out of nowhere by a passing Colby Covington. Covington criticized the quality of Pimblett’s competition, while Pimblett mocked Covington for being on a losing streak.
Pimblett appeared on the ESPN post-event show shortly afterwards and he elaborated on what went down with Covington.“Oh yeah, this little maggot,” Pimblett said. “He only does something when there’s a camera about.
I’ve seen him at Power Slap the other week and walked past him staring at him and he looked at the floor like that. Now, he knows there’s a camera about. He walked past, so I just said, ‘Lad, I’ll come and slap you, but you’ll go and ring the police on me like you did with Masvidal, you little grass [snitch].
’”Covington has won just one fight dating back to 2021, a decision win over Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272. He was later attacked outside of a Miami steakhouse by Masvidal, resulting in Masvidal’s arrest and his subsequent guilty plea for misdemeanor battery.Pimblett is now 7-0 in the UFC after beating Chandler and his sights are set solely on a lightweight title shot, so Covington is the least of his concerns.
“He can eat shit,” Pimblett said. “He pays supermodels to stand with him, the f*cking bum. He’s a nobody.
He’s on a three-fight losing streak or something, he’s irrelevant. He’s trying to use me now to stay relevant because he’s a nobody, he’s a bum. I’d beat Colby Covington for a laugh, but I’ve got bigger fish to fry than that little mushroom.
”The Liverpool native went on to name top contenders Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, and Arman Tsarukyan as potential opponents. He also mentioned longtime rival Ilia Topuria, who is set to make a move to the UFC lightweight division soon, and former two-division champion Conor McGregor.“There’s also Conor McGregor, we saw him put a bet on Michael Chandler.
” Pimblett said. “With the Scouse-Irish connection, you’re meant to back your own, so if he wants his head punched in when he comes back, I’m game to beat McGregor up.”For more from Pimblett, check out his post-fight press conference appearance below.
