Paddy Pimblett made a massive weight cut in order to make the biggest fight of his career official on Friday morning. Popular lightweight contender Pimblett is known for his absurd body transformations , including once ballooning to heavyweight out of camp before getting back down to 156lb. He is set to face Michael Chandler tonight at UFC 314 , and needed to make that limit, which proved difficult on Thursday night.
Once Pimblett had made weight, he immediately set about eating as much as possible, munching on ice cream, pancakes and bagels in an effort to pack on weight quickly. He documented the entire process on his YouTube channel. Paddy Pimblett lost 14lb in one night ahead of UFC 314 In a video documenting his weight cutting process ahead of UFC 314, Paddy Pimblett showed off the entirety of his gruesome cut to 156lb.
He releases a video of the same kind before every one of his major fights, showing just how gruelling the process is for fighters. After an intense pad work session in a sweat suit at 7.45pm on Thursday night, he tipped the scales at just over 169lb.
This meant that he had between 13 and 14lb to lose, and just over 12 hours in which to do it. As such, he headed to the bath and sweated out a massive amount of weight, while ingesting next to no food or water. It was a brutal cut, but he was able to pass the time by calling his wife Laura Gregory who was struggling with travel issues getting to Miami.
He eventually was able to, after sleeping with about four pounds to go, get down to the lightweight limit and was one of the first fighters on the scales. For all the talk of his weight gain out of camp, he has never seemed close to missing weight for any of his octagon outings. Paddy Pimblett binged on junk food ahead of Michael Chandler final face-off Immediately after that hardcore weight cut, the first thing on Pimblett’s mind was refuelling with as much food as he could get his hands on.
He quickly started with some fruits and a bagel, but then went straight for pancakes doused in syrup and bananas. After that, he and the team headed out for ice cream where he picked out four scoops, which he insisted was proper food for his replenishment. “It’s got a nice amount of calories in it,” he told the cameras while picking out flavors.
“It’s full of carbs which is what Paul wants me to eat but it’s also refreshing...
Very refreshing.” He then headed home where he prepared for ceremonial weigh-ins and the final face-off with Chandler ahead of their fight. This article first appeared on Bloody Elbow and was syndicated with permission.
