Security camera footage appears to show an Amazon driver stealing packages they had delivered just seconds earlier outside a Massachusetts home. Lisa and David Nahabedian said the delivery was supposed to contain a holiday present for their son. According to a police report, it was two sweatshirts with a total value of $70.
"We're looking all around the different neighbors. We asked our son. He didn't know where it was.
So we're like, well, let's look at the Ring camera," said Lisa Nahabedian. The video they found shows the delivery driver placing the items on their Newton doorstep, walking away to snap a confirmation photo on their phone and then coming back to take the package. "She waited for the light to turn green in front of my house so all the cars would start moving, then she started to do her delivery and porch pirate and go back in the car and then nearly gets into an accident trying to pull away," said David Nahabedian.
Since the summer, several victims have reported that their packages were taken by someone dressed as an Amazon delivery employee. In this case, however, the video appears to show the same person both making the delivery and stealing the package. "We've never had any problems getting packages," said David Nahabedian.
"Part of the reason I got the Ring camera was because of this." Police have repeatedly urged customers who are expecting deliveries to try to be home for the delivery. Alternatively, agencies have recommended asking for the delivery to be left near a side door or using a secure pickup location.
Additionally, the Boston Police Department on Friday issued a warning about a related scam in which perpetrators will send phishing messages about an incomplete delivery. In those scams, the fraudsters are trying to trick victims into clicking on links and providing personal information..
