Surat: Union jal shakti minister C R Paatil , who is also Gujarat unit BJP chief, on Friday attacked Congress following a scuffle between elected representatives in the J&K assembly over Article 370. Addressing the media here, he claimed that "the Congress likes twisting and bending the Constitution". "National Conference legislators took oaths on the Constitution in the assembly, and their first move was to undermine a decision made in parliament.

Congress leaders carry copies of the Constitution but support the NC on this issue. The decision to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A was taken with a full majority in parliament after in-depth discussion, yet Congress and NC leaders are attempting to reverse this decision,'' said Paatil. Paatil said the abrogation of Article 370 had contributed to the development of J&K.

"The people of Jammu and Kashmir feel they have achieved true freedom. Previously, the daughters of Jammu and Kashmir who married outside the region lost their right to inherit their fathers' property," he claimed. He said, "Dalits and tribal people residing there were also denied reservations.

The abrogation has ensured that these rights are now protected for tribal, minority, and Dalit communities.'' The Union minister claimed that terrorist attacks had declined by 70% and locals now wish to contribute to national development. "However, instead of prioritising development, the elected govt is focused on reversing parliament's decision, raising questions about Congress's loyalty to the Constitution.

Why do they oppose protecting the rights of the tribal, Dalit, and minority communities? They owe an answer to the people of the country, or else the public will respond. The true colours of the Congress and NC have been exposed," he said..
