Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has categorically denied any intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State. Adedeji made this declaration during the New Year service at his church in Iwo Ate, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State. Adedeji, who served as Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, stated that he has fulfilled his responsibilities in the State.

“I, Zach Adedeji, will not contest for the governorship election in 2027. I know a lot of people will not be happy about this, but everybody that knows the responsibility and grace that Almighty has given to us. Adedeji appealed to his supporters to pray for him to excel in his current position as FIRS Chairman, rather than distracting him with governorship ambitions. “He has given us that platform, so the only thing I need from you is the prayer that in what I’m doing now, the Lord gives me strength. So, I would not want to be distracted”.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Adedeji as FIRS Chairman in September 2023. Prior to this appointment, Adedeji served as Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Sugar Development Council..
