Rewley Road Fire Station's Green Watch have been practising their water rescue skills.

Rewley Road Fire Station's Green Watch have spent their day shifts training by the water. They carried out multiple water rescue scenarios and refreshed their first aid skills after each rescue. They also tested their pumps by lifting water from the river, simulating what they might have to do during incidents.

The fire station said: "It’s important we never stop training to make sure we are well prepared for any incidents we may have to attend to." The station invited people who are interested in joining its on-call team to find out more about the paid, professional role online. On-call firefighters receive the same training as wholetime firefighters, but instead of being based at a fire station, they are called out to respond to incidents when alerted.

On average, they are called out two or three times a week for about an hour at a time, either at day or at night..
