Not many NFL organizations are impacted greatly by Presidential Elections. Most teams aren't the New York Jets, though. With Donald Trump winning Tuesday's election to become the 47th President of the United States, work has begun on filling out not only his cabinet but also his ambassadors for countries around the world.
Barry Reeger-Imagn Images Jets owner Woody Johnson stepped down as part-owner of the team when Trump won the presidency to become the Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Chris Johnson, Woody's brother, took over the day-to-day roles. With Trump once again in the White House, an obvious question surrounding the Jets' future leadership group must come into the fold.
If Johnson were to be given his old Ambassador role again, it would mean that Chris would be running key decisions for the organization. Under Chris, the Jets did not have a season with over eight wins. During that time, the organization went through three different coaches including Todd Bowles, Adam Gase, and Robert Saleh.
Chris' tenure also saw the introduction of general manager Joe Douglas to the team. Douglas has struggled to field a winning team but has infused the roster with talent that Woody called "one of the most talented teams that has ever been assembled by the New York Jets." Would Chris agree with Woody regarding that notion? Would that be enough to save Douglas' job after the 2024 season? The Johnson family is trying to shrug off the team's 13-year playoff drought, but a change in main leadership could alter those plans. It's why Trump's victory on Tuesday actually will bleed into the NFL here..
