FOLLY BEACH — The owner of a Folly Beach condo is accused of using a hidden camera to make video recordings of beach guests in 2021 and 2022. William Daniel Mayes, 54, was released from the Charleston County jail Dec. 7 on a $260,000 bond.
He was arrested a day earlier and charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the first degree and 14 counts of voyeurism. Greenville youth pastor and wedding photographer pleads guilty to creating child sexual abuse images According to the arrest warrant affidavits, Mayes, who is from Aiken, came to the attention of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office which received a tip about possible child sexual abuse material. Mayes allegedly had electronic files containing video of a 10-year-old child in various stages of undress in a place where the victim had an expectation of privacy.
Mayes also allegedly had video recordings of adults in various stages of undress, too. According to the affidavits, officers believe Mayes hide a camera at the condo to record people without their knowledge or consent .
