Owen has been hailed a ‘natural born talent’ since the show’s release on Netflix

Owen Cooper has described what it’s been like returning to school after starring in Netflix hit Adolescence . Owen, 15, who plays Jamie Miller - accused of killing a female classmate - filmed the series when he was just 14. And since the show hit the streaming service last month, his performance has been praised - with The Standard even asking if it is the best child acting debut of all time.

He’s also been booked for huge projects already - including playing young Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s new version of Wuthering Heights which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Now, the young actor has shared what it’s been like returning to education, saying it’s been “a bit mad”. Owen was being interviewed for The New York Times alongside his dad in the series, Stephen Graham .

After Stephen seemed concerned about the attention Owen was getting, the 15-year-old reassured him that it wasn’t anything serious - just that children would run up to him, shout his name and then flee. Stephen then seemed reassured, saying: “Ah, just some silly ********.” Speaking to The Standard about Owen’s amazing performance, the show’s director Philip Barantini called the actor a “natural born talent”.

He said: “This was his first ever job. I’ve worked with so many actors who can't do what he can do. It's just natural, he's natural born talent.

” The director also praised how Owen dealt with the show being filmed in one take. “There were times when I'd be sat with him in rehearsals giving him notes,” the director said. “We'd just be talking about it and I was thinking he doesn't want to be here, he’s absolutely bored, but he wasn’t.

“He was properly concentrating and taking it all in. I only realised that when he get on set and all the notes that I'd given him were just bang on. And even more so, he would use his own initiative to do stuff.

“He became really confident. He wasn't scared to try stuff in the moment.” The director added: “He wasn't scared about being on set and we were really conscious of making him, and everyone, all feel incredibly welcome.

“We wanted him to know it doesn't matter that you've never acted before and you're working with all these seasoned professionals. You are here for a reason, because you're amazing.”.
