Over P30-M worth of humanitarian aid distributed amid Kanlaon unrest -- DSWD

More than P37.9 million worth of humanitarian assistance has been distributed so far to individuals affected by the unrest of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Wednesday.

DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said an initial 17,000 food packs have been handed out to 17,279 families or over 57,000 individuals in 23 barangays in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

7 million in our national stockpile.) State volcanologists noted increased seismic activity at Kanlaon Volcano last Sept. 9, just three months after it erupted in June.

Five volcanic earthquakes were recorded over the volcano on Tuesday as it remains under Alert Level 2 , which means there is an increased unrest. Ferdie, Gener, Habagat Meanwhile, the DSWD said that over 32,000 family food packs have been distributed to families affected by the Tropical Cyclones Ferdie and Gener, and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat. Aside from the food packs, Dumlao said local government units in Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, and BARMM have also requested over 1,200 non-food items.
