Over 20 people seen by medics after scarce water, hot temperatures during UL-Tulane game

Dozens of fans were treated for heat related injuries during Saturday’s UL-Tulane football game as a water shortage and a high temperature of 93 degrees made conditions difficult for some in attendance at Cajun Field in Lafayette.

Acadiana Ambulance said that it received over 15 phone calls related to fans suffering from heat exhaustion.

There were 36 cases of heat related injuries among people in attendance at the game, UL sports information director Mike Sullivan told The Acadiana Advocate. Concession stands inside the stadium ran out of bottled water during the second half of the game, Sullivan confirmed. "The highest reported temperature on the field during the game was 138 degrees," Sullivan said.



"During the game, there is free water which are two water tanks. Each tank is about 125 gallons each, which is equal to 1,000 16oz plastic water bottles." Sullivan also said an additional 6000 bottles of water were available at the concessions during the game.
