Pune: The district election department received 1,074 complaints through the Election Commission's ‘1950' helpline, with more than 60% of callers reporting difficulty finding their names in voters' lists ahead of the Nov 20 assembly poll . Election officials on Friday said complainants were directed to returning officers (ROs) of their respective assembly constituencies for assistance. The helpline, introduced following similar issues during the Lok Sabha election, also handled queries about new voter registrations.
Many voters who have not received their voter slips have called up on the number, or those who had the old series. Seema Panchang said she registered as a voter but received no intimation. "Of the total 1,074 inquiries, 670 were voter-related, while those about the new registrations were 225.
General inquiries were just 179," said a district election official in charge of the helpline. A block-level official from the Hadapsar assembly constituency said the issue of one family and different polling booths continued. "There are issues of some of the voter slips containing no addresses," the BLO said, while showing several undistributed voter slips.
Vimannagar resident Meera Kaup said despite registering as a voter, her name did not reflect in the electoral search portal. She called up the helpline and was directed to Wadgaon Sheri assembly constituency RO, who helped her find the name. Another resident, Rohan Joshi, who is helping out many citizens from the Koregaon Park area find names in the voters' list, said helpline numbers would help citizens find their names and polling stations ahead of the polling day.
