A Radcliffe childminder is "over the moon" after being graded "outstanding" after an inspection by the education watchdog. Jane Nuttall has been caring for young children for more than 34 years. Inspectors from Ofsted visited her home in Turks Road, Radcliffe, last month and praised Ms Nuttall for fostering an “open and positive culture”.
The report published on April 7 noted that “children feel extremely happy and secure with this passionate and dedicated childminder”. Inspectors found that the curriculum provided was “outstanding,” with children using a broad vocabulary to describe their feelings and strategies to manage their difficult emotions. The report said that Ms Nuttall uses her “extensive experience to implement a wide-ranging curriculum individually tailored to each child's needs”.
It added: “Children make rapid progress and demonstrate an impressive depth of knowledge and broad range of skills. “The childminder's approach to supporting children with additional needs is exemplary. “She holds very high ambitions for all children and, in turn, children show exceptionally positive attitudes to learning.
” Ms Nuttall received a "good" rating in 2019 and implemented risk assessments for outings to ensure that minded children were not exposed to risks of passive smoking following a complaint raised with Ofsted in 2022. Inspectors visiting in March noted Ms Nuttall’s supportive approach ensured that children are not afraid to make mistakes, with those in her care repeating the words, "We'll get there together". They found that the children were prepared incredibly well for school.
This was largely down to Ms Nuttall’s “methodical approach” to building up the daily contact children have with their new teacher, identifying the skills they need to master and ensuring children feel confident about the transition. She also learns about the routines and systems schools use, such as phonics programmes, and ensures her own teaching complements these techniques. The report found that as a result, children felt very confident and well-prepared for a successful start to school.
Jane said: “I am over the moon with my outstanding outcome. “I work hard to meet all the children's individual needs and I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support over the years. “I will continue to prepare my children for their next steps.
