Home | ‘Out of 10, I give myself 12’ – McKenzie on first 100 days in Office Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie says politicians should tell people their plans and deliver, not make empty promises. He’s been reflecting on his 100 Days of office in the Government of National Unity (GNU). McKenzie says his first days in office have been characterised by time spent solving problems that needed to be dealt with quickly.
“Out of 10, I give myself 12. I have achieved so many things in the 100 days all because I’m surrounded by a very good team. When I first became the Minister, I was there at the National School of Arts that’s closing down because they couldn’t afford the teacher’s salary.
They can’t afford to pay for electricity, it doesn’t even fall directly under me but I just went straight, and I sorted out the problem and made sure we put them on the right track. “Now the school is operating five hundred kids can still go to school. That’s what politicians must do, you must tell people what you are going to do for them and then what I do I use those plans,” he adds.
