Home | ‘Our heritage may be different but our love for SA is the same’ Sport, Arts and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie says while South Africans have different heritages, their love for the country is the same. He opened the debate on Heritage Day in the National Assembly yesterday. Heritage Day will be celebrated next week Tuesday.

The theme of this year’s debate is: “Celebrating 30 years of Unity in diversity and paying tribute to those who laid lives for our democracy”. McKenzie reflected on how it was never imaginable that peace and reconciliation would be achieved with the release of Nelson Mandela. He says, “Our cultures Madam Speaker and heritages might be different but our love for South Africa is the same.

We have achieved a miracle. The world still use us as an example when they speak about people who has put their country above hate and prejudice.” McKenzie says, “The world still speak about us when they speak about people who put their country above everything else in order to attain people and reach the promised land.

We are one nation under God. We are the children of Nelson Mandela.” “It is not Uhuru yet but we will get there.

Those who died for our freedom will smile today, because their death was not in vain. We have not reached all the things they fought for, but we very strong on our way. We are melting pot of different cultured Madam Speaker,” he adds.
