The incident has displaced many businesses, police added in a Tuesday afternoon news release. It added that police were looking for anyone with dash- or surveillance-camera video of suspicious activity in the area of Castlefrank Road and Hazeldean Road between 1:30 a.

Ottawa Fire Services said the blaze was reported just after 3:30 a.m., when a 911 caller spotted heavy black smoke coming from one of the businesses in the commercial strip mall.

A “second alarm” was declared at 3:57, calling additional fire resources to the scene. Ottawa Fire Services said the blaze spread through the roof and the walls of four units, but firefighters were able to contain it before it spread throughout the entire complex. No occupants were found inside the structure, nor were any injuries reported.
