Orlando Pirates are not only going toe-to-toe with Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title, but for top quality players too. Pirates currently top the Betway Premiership standings, with 21 points from a possible 21, with Sundowns second with 18 points. Pirates and Sundowns interested in Adams With both teams pressing ahead with their plans to win the title, Pirates and Sundowns could enter the January market.

This will, as usual, see both giants looking for top signings to bolster their respective sides. It is inevitable that they could be competing in the exact same market for these reinforcements. Now according to Soccer-Laduma , both Pirates have entered the race to sign Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams.



The 23-year-old currently plays for Stellenbosch FC, where he has thoroughly impressed. So much so that Sundowns reportedly offered around R20 million for his services before closure of the previous window. According to the latest reports, the Buccaneers are trying to beat Masandawana to his signature.

Buccaneers leading the race? “At the moment the way things stand, Pirates are in a much better position to sign Jayden (Adams). They have offered Stellenbosch FC money plus Goodman Mosele for that deal to go through. Yes, it’s still early stages but that is how things start.

They could actually overtake Mamelodi Sundowns in that race. They are confident they can have the deal sealed in the next transfer window period which is in January,” said one source. Another sou rce claims that Pirates new man and former Stellies captain Deano van Rooyen is influencing Adams to ditch Sundowns.

“It’s believed that Van Rooyen has been talking to Jayden (Adams) and telling him about life at Pirates. They are very close and that could also influence the move. But it will all depend on the talks between Stellenbosch FC and Orlando Pirates and if Mamelodi Sundowns could go all the way and meet the price tag that Stellies had put up towards the end of the last transfer window in September,” said the second source.
