daily. Much like its predecessor, Lillian’s is built to be a neighborhood establishment. Part market and café, part restaurant and bar, the new destination is selling fresh vegetables and goods from local businesses like Storey Farms and Rio Bertolini's in the room closest to its entrance at the corner of Congress and President streets.

That's also where patrons can order flat whites and cortados; cinnamon rolls and muffins; and hot breakfast sandwiches and grit bowls loaded with vegetables or meat. Counter service continues during lunch, when chef Todd Garrigan, formerly of Craftsmen Kitchen & Tap House, is offering a variation of the burger he served at his beer bar and restaurant, which closed in 2019 .

Here, it's called the Westside burger. Served with roasted fingerling potatoes crisped in the fryer, it features two patties of ground beef supplemented by cured pork belly. They're joined by house-made pickles, smoked cheddar and shredded lettuce dressed in a sauce of mayonnaise, mustard, garlic and lemon juice inside a milk bread bun.

For Garrigan and his staff, the 10-item dinner offering is a platform for experimentation with local ingredients, bringing a contemporary approach highlighting the fresh vegetables Lillian's patrons can buy downstairs. The menu will shift about eight times per year. Shawn Taft, sous chef, cooks meals inside the kitchen at Lillian’s, Friday, December 20, 2024, in Charleston.

"Anybody who has a cool idea is welcome to bring it," Garrigan said, discussing his staff. "It's more about team so far more than anything." Right now, they're serving an oyster stew topped with fried oysters and house-made brioche, a hanger steak sourced from Hunter Cattle Co.

in Georgia and a vegetable lasagna that's been a huge hit, Garrigan said. Breakfast and lunch are first come, first served, and reservations are available during dinner. For more information, visit lillianschs.
