Orangeburg County will hold its second annual Veterans Day parade and program Monday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m.

Orangeburg County will hold its second annual Veterans Day parade and program Monday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m.

The Veterans Day parade will line up in Edisto Gardens on Seaboard Street. The parade will begin there and proceed down Ameila Street. The parade will end at Lowman Street near the Orangeburg County Library parking lot.



The line up for the parade begins at 9:45 a.m. Immediately following the parade, the program will be held at the Orangeburg County Library and Conference Center at 11:30 a.

Smith Jr., Commander of the 59th Troop Command Brigade, will be the keynote speaker. A Springfield resident and Pennsylvania native, Smith received his master of fine arts degree from the University of South Carolina's College of Arts and Sciences in 2005 and a master of strategic studies in 2022 from the U.

S. Army War College. Smith enlisted in the United States Army in June 1993.

In August of 1993, he graduated from Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In January 1994, he graduated from Fuel System Supply Specialist 77F, Fort Lee, and was stationed in Camp Mobile, Korea. In September of 2001, he completed Officer Candidate School in Pennsylvania and completed the Transportation Officer Basic Course in Fort Eustis, Virginia.

After receiving his commission, Smith was assigned to the 154th Quartermaster Battalion as a Battalion Transportation Movement Officer in Philadelphia; Smith has served in a number of roles over the years to include: ■„ A Tactical Officer 166th Train Regiment „■ Commander, 382nd/108th Public Affairs „■ Executive Officer JFHQ ■ Commander, 1052nd Transportation Company ■ „Operation Officer 218th BSB ■ „Support Operations Officer 751st „ ■ Maintenance Team Chief JFHQ In 2014, Smith's branch transferred to Military Police Corp and he was assigned as the Executive Officer for the 51st Military Police Battalion (MP BN) Smith has also served as the Operations Officer 51st MP BN and Executive Officer of the 1050th Transportation BN. He has also served as the Commander of the 1050th Transportation BN. Smith has served in Operation Enduring Freedom (January 2012-April 2013) Smiths' awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service ribbon, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and NATO Medal.
