Several people were rescued from flood waters in the North area during the early morning hours on Thursday. The North Fire Department helped rescue people from two homes and one vehicle, according to Assistant Chief Billy Robinson. “I haven’t gotten any sleep,” Robinson said Thursday morning.

He and his fellow firefighters helped a woman get out of her car that was stalled in high water at around 1:30 a.m. on North Road, near Slab Landing Road.

They used a jon boat to help people at two homes get to neighbors’ homes for safety. Crews helped a family of five on Snake Swamp Road get out of their home. A Bedford Avenue man was also rescued.

Robinson said the man’s propane tank was floating in the yard and crews helped secure the tank. Robinson said emergency crews responded to numerous calls regarding felled trees. “It’s all over the county,” he said.
