A video showing an individual being confronted by police while doing lawn care that has been circulating online is “untrue,” warns the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). “The beginning of the video features a brief clip of OPP officers,” the OPP said in a news release Friday. “The OPP can confirm that the incident detailed in the video is untrue.

” Police say the video was made by using footage from two unrelated videos to fabricate a false scenario where OPP officers were confronting an individual who was working in the yard. Spreading disinformation “can fuel public hostility, heighten risks to officer safety and undermine community trust,” the OPP adds. Officers are asking residents to remain critical of the information online.

“We thank the public for bringing this video to our attention to allow us the opportunity to confirm that the contents are inaccurate,” reads the release. “The OPP remains committed to transparency and the safety of the communities we serve.” CTV News Ottawa has reached out to the OPP for more information.
