Not only has the first footage that’s been released been described by viewers as ‘amazing’ and ‘harrowing’, but what makes the four-part series even more mind-blowing is that it has been filmed in one shot.Shedding further light on the filming process, director Philip Barantini – who also helmed the acclaimed one-shot film Boiling Point in 2021 – told Deadline that Adolescence co-writer Jack Thorne ‘had never written anything like this’.‘He’s done amazing theatre but with this there is no curtain call.

The camera is always following someone,’ he said.Stephen Graham has been hailed by fans as one of the ‘finest actors’ ever (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)His Dark Materials writer Jack shared: ‘It was very complicated to write. I’m not allowed to cut away to go anywhere else,’ adding that the ‘camera doesn’t blink in this show and by being unblinking it allows for a certain rawness and honesty’.

The trailer for Adolescence opens with heavily armed police charging into the Millers’ family home and arresting Jamie, leaving his parents in utter despair.Jamie is then taken for an interrogation, with his father Eddie present as the teenager’s ‘appropriate adult’, to support him while he’s in police custody.Viewers have already been left incredibly impressed by the acting talents of Owen Cooper as teenage suspect Jamie Miller (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)It’s revealed that a girl that Jamie went to school with has been killed, and he’s a suspect in her murder.

Jamie is questioned by clinical psychologist Briony, while his mother Manda Miller (Christine Tremarco) breaks down in tears. In one scene, Eddie and Jamie are sitting in the interrogation room together, both of them crying as Stephen’s character turns to his son and whispers: ‘What have you done?’Another horrifying moment shows Jamie with Briony – but while the teenager smacks a drink off the table and launches into an explosive rant, viewers can’t hear his dialogue, as the sound is replaced by an eerie ringing noise.Fans can’t wait to see Ashley Walters in the role of the detective leading the case (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)‘It’s crazy what your brain tells you to do when you’re a kid,’ a voiceover says at the end of the trailer, the final shot showing Jamie facing up to the camera with a neutral expression on his face.

The trailer had fans raving over the drama before they’ve even had a chance to watch it.‘Stephen Graham is astounding in everything he does. The most underrated British actor imo.

Ashley Walters has been underutilised since Top Boy, I have high hopes for this one!’ @toxichazard5015 wrote in a comment on YouTube.Erin Doherty also recently starred with Stephen Graham in A Thousand Blows (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)‘This is filmed in one continuous shot. It looks like it’s going to be amazing,’ @thisgirlwhodis4495 wrote, while @Fadingfader commented: ‘Wow.

This trailer woke my soul up.’Another YouTube user called @Najeebster admitted that while Stephen is one of the ‘finest actors around’, they’re not sure if they have ‘the stomach’ for the ‘harrowing’ drama. On Instagram, more fans expressed how impressed they were with what they’d watched, with @molliemigliusiene remarking: ‘Can we just take a moment for this kids acting? Wowserssssss 👏.

’‘I’d put Stephen Graham up against any actor from any generation. I don’t think there’s anyone better,’ @iamchristoal stated, as @jaz.ghazli also wrote: ‘The kid’s acting looks phenomenal.

’Following Adolescence, breakout teenage star Owen is set to appear in the 2026 adaptation of Wuthering Heights alongside Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.Adolescence premieres on Thursday, March 13 on Netflix.Got a story? If you’ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.
