One taken to hospital after Somerset house fire

One person was taken to hospital after a chip pan burst into flames. Fire crews arrived at the Burnham-on-Sea property at tea time on Sunday, December 14, after smoke and flames erupted from the kitchen. Firefighters from Bridgwater, Burnham On Sea and Cheddar were sent to the scene at around 5.

50pm. Three fire engines and an Operational Assurance Officer arrived and confirmed there were flames coming from the kitchen. All people were quickly accounted for and crews got to work putting out the fire.



One resident suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they were taken to hospital to be checked over. The kitchen of the property suffered "severe" fire damage, the fire service said, while the rest of the building was damaged by smoke.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire Control received calls to report a fire at a property. Three fire engines and an Operational Assurance Officer were sent to the location.

On arrival, crews confirmed this to be a fire in the kitchen with smoke and flames issuing. "Crews entered the property with two breathing apparatus wearers, one hose reel jet and one covering jet. All persons were accounted for.

"This was a fire involving a chip pan in the kitchen of the property, the fire was extinguished using 2 breathing apparatus wearers, 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet, triple extension ladder, thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the property of smoke. "An Ambulance was requested to attend for one occupant suffering with smoke inhalation. The occupant was conveyed to hospital for precautionary checks.

The property suffered severe fire damage to the room of origin and the rest was damaged by smoke. "The cause was accidental. Duty of care was left with the occupiers.
