One person dies in house fire in Baton Rouge, a child able to escape unharmed, officials say

Baton Rouge Fire Department Facebook Twitter WhatsApp SMS Email Print Copy article link Save One person died in a house fire Thursday morning, while a child was able to escape, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said. The fire at 251 Margaret Street broke out at about 4 a.m.

Thursday and took about an hour to extinguish, the fire department said. Responding firefighters found heavy fire coming from the bedrooms on the side of the house, and the car in the driveway was also on fire, BRFD said in a news release. During the search of the home, firefighters found one person dead.



"A neighbor told firefighters that a child escaped the fire unharmed and was in a house across the street. EMS monitored the child," the fire department said in a news release. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
